Kimunya arrested over irregular 25 Acre land deal

Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission Spokesman Yassin Aila confirmed that Amos Kimunya was picked up on Friday afternoon and was being processed to appear in court on Monday.

“The former minister Kimunya is here with us, and he is likely to be in court on Monday,” Aila said.
After interrogation, Kimunya would likely be granted bail to appear in court on Monday.
The DPP authorised charges against the former Cabinet Minister and two others over the irregular allocation of a piece of land to a firm where he was a director.
In a statement, DPP Keriako Tobiko said when Kimunya was Lands Minister, he caused the land to be allocated to M/s Midlands Limited, a company where he was a director and shareholder without the consent of the Ministry of Agriculture.
The 25-acre piece of land in Nyandarua was part of 75 acres belonging to the Ministry of Agriculture that had been reserved for a potatoes seed multiplication project.
“Following an investigation and recommendation by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), the DPP has authorised charges of abuse of office and fraudulent disposal and acquisition of public property against Hon Amos Kimunya, Lillian Njenga, formerly Director of Land Adjudication and Junghae Wainaina, the Chairman of the Board of M/s Midlands Limited,” read a statement from the DPP’s office.
