MOURINHO'S WORDS BEFORE GAME AGAINST LIVERPOOL, 27th April

Jose Mourinho is hopeful his back-
up goalkeepers will be able to step
into the breach following the injury
to Petr Cech which has
brought his season to a premature
conclusion.
Cech was forced out of our game
against Atletico Madrid in midweek
with a dislocated shoulder, replaced
by Mark Schwarzer after only 18
minutes.
The Australian, our second-choice
keeper, is expected to start the
second leg against Diego Simeone's
side on Wednesday, and the
manager is wary of him picking up
an injury in today's game at
Liverpool, meaning Hilario could be
involved for the first time since
August 2011.
'It's a big dilemma,' said Mourinho.
'Especially with players who are
always looking for penalties and go
for contact with the goalkeeper, it's
even more dangerous.
'I remember when Hilario played
against Barcelona in the Champions
League, he went in goal and he had
to answer, so it's a good thing to
have a second or third keeper with
experience, who goes into the game
ready.'
Mourinho also explained his reasons
for signing Schwarzer at the
beginning of the campaign.
'He's experienced, the number of
matches he's played during his
career, he knows everything about
the goal and the small box,' said the
Blues boss.
'When you are choosing a second
keeper you need to choose someone
who is mentally ready to play at any
moment.'
As well as Cech, Mourinho will also
have to do without the services of
John Terry, Eden Hazard and
Samuel Eto'o for the trip to Anfield,
with all three players currently
injured.
With both Frank Lampard and John
Mikel Obi suspended for the visit of
Atletico, it's certainly a testing time,
but the manager is not looking for
excuses.
'The squad is not thin,' he said.
'How do we avoid this? You can't
avoid it. We can't have a squad of
40 players because we are afraid 15
of them are going to be injured.
'We have injuries, we have two
players - Nemanja Matic and
Mohamed Salah - who are not
eligible to play in the Champions
League. We bought the two players
in January because the future is
more important than the present.
We decided to buy the players we
wanted to buy even if they cannot
play in the Champions League, so we
have two less with them.
'Because of the nature of our
matches, we had to play against
Galatasaray and the second leg
against Paris when we were losing
3-1, we had an accumulation of
yellow cards that leaves us now
without two players.
'You can't control these
circumstances. I cannot have five
goalkeepers because I'm afraid three
of them are going to be injured.'
On the subject of European
suspensions, Mourinho respects the
rules, and believes only UEFA can
make changes to ensure the best
players are able to play in the most
high-profile matches.
'It's for UEFA to decide,' said the
Portuguese. 'Normally you want the
most important matches to be
played with the best players. If the
final is the most important game in
Europe and the semi-final is the
second-most important game in
European football, it should be
played with the best players.
'But the rules are there, everybody
knows the rules from the first match
so we can't complain.'

Kalonzo’s Apology For His Tribal Remark

BY KALONZO MUSYOKA

I wish to clarify the following,
That this morning during a press
briefing in response to Jicho Pevu
and to the State of the Nation
address by the President a few
weeks ago, a journalist asked a
question without identifying
himself and/or the media house he works for.

I felt he had asked a misleading
question and my answer to him
was that his assumed political tilt
was evident and reflective of the
very polarised society that Kenya
has become.

I in no way intended to neither
demean the young man, nor do I
or would I harbour any animosity
toward him.
To the contrary, I have tirelessly
worked for cohesion in this country and in my lifetime supported many leaders from various communities
to include the Kalenjin, Luo,
Kikuyu, Coast and this is common
knowledge.

I did have tea with Mureithi and
duly apologised for any hurt my
remark would have caused, indeed
it was with a light touch but I wish
to apologize to him, the entire
journalistic fraternity and anybody
else who might feel the comments
were offensive.

I remain committed to a united
Kenya and a vibrant democracy.

KENYAN WOMAN SURVIVES DEATH.

A pregnant woman has been
admitted to Meru Level Five
Hospital after her husband
allegedly beat and injured her
in the private parts during the
Easter holiday.
The 31-year-old woman was
reportedly beaten up by her
husband, a constable attached
to Gatimbi AP Police Post in
Central Imenti Sub-County.
Narrating her ordeal at the
hospital, the woman said her
drunk husband arrived home
at 3am on Saturday and
ordered her to strip naked.
She claimed that she complied
before the officer changed into
his full uniform, drew out a
rod and two bullets before
hitting her while shouting that
he was to kill someone that
day.
The man then asked her to go
back to the house where he
turned on the TV so that her
screams did not attract
neighbours.
“It is then that he took a
bottle that he had carried with
him and the rod, and inserted
them into my private parts.
He then blindfolded me and
gagged my mouth to keep me
silent,” she said.
She said she passed out after
the ordeal.
“At around 5.30am I woke up
and found him asleep on the
bed, perhaps he also passed
out after drinking too much. I
then crawled to the camp
headquarters where other
officers rushed me to
hospital,” she said.
She was admitted to the
Gatimbi Health Centre but
later transferred to Meru
Level Five Hospital for
specialised treatment.
Meru County AP Commander
Njue Njagi, who visited her at
the hospital, said they were
investigating the matter.
The police boss urged officers
to seek counselling to prevent
similar occurrences.

WE ARE COMING TO BLOW YOU, AL-SHABAAB MILLITANTS SAY.

“We are going to blow you up, we
will destroy you all.”
It is the chilling message al-
Shabaab terrorists have
delivered to Nairobi residents and
people living in other
major towns.
In a report first published by CNN
on its website,
members of the militant group used
a video clip to send
the message at a time when the
country is grappling
with insecurity.
In the video, described as new by
the CNN, the militants
are reviewing the September 21
Westgate Mall attack
where 67 people died and hundreds
injured. It took four
days to end the siege.
Even as the Westgate trial continues
locally in court, the
extremists say they are not done.
“It’s not that Westgate was enough,”
they say. “There
are still hundreds of men who are
wishing for such an
operation.”
Peter Bergen, an authority on
terrorism who interviewed
the late Osama bin Laden and is a
CNN national security
analyst, said that this Al-Shabaab
threat has to be taken
seriously.
“We certainly can’t dismiss their
ability to carry out
those kinds of terrorist attacks,”
Bergen said.
The Kenyan government has been
deporting hundreds of
people or taking them to refugee
camps in an ongoing
operation to crack down on illegal
immigrants and
suspected terrorist cells.
The operation kicked off early this
month following two
explosions in Eastleigh.
During the Administration Police
pass out parade on
Thursday last week, President Uhuru
Kenyatta said
illegal immigrants in the country had
brought problems.
“Some neighbouring countries have
had conflicts which
have spilled over to Kenya. The
violent extremism we
saw at Westgate continues to claim
the lives of innocent
citizens,” said the President.
He said extremism had nothing to do
with religion or
ethnicity.
But the war on terror is yet to be
won with al-Shabaab
issuing new threats.
The al-Qaeda linked group has
claimed responsibility for
most terror attacks which have
rocked the Capital.
