Raila asks for calm, peace, unity ahead of rally

Nairobi - CORD leader Raila
Odinga has asked for peace and
calm from his supporters as plans
continue for the mega rally
planned to mark his arrival from
the US.
Odinga will arrive back in the
country Saturday from a two
month long visit to the United
States of America.
CORD have planned a major rally
at Nairobi's Uhuru park to mark
his arrival and with the
government offering their
reservations over the rally due to
security reasons, Odinga has
moved to quell any perceived
notion of trouble on the day.
" I would like to thank my
supporters in advance for
choosing to attend the rally but
ask that they maintain peace and
unity, as well as respect those who
will be running their businesses
as normal and as well try
maintain the rule of law, he said
in a statement.
He also asked all those who would
speak at the rally to be cautious
with their statements and not put
the country at risk of anarchy.
" I would also like to ask the
speakers to choose what words to
say and speak responsibly, he
added.
He did also ask that the police
provide useful security, hoping
that they handle potential
situations in the right manner so
as not to cause chaos.
" I urge the police to provide
adequate security and that they
act in the right manner, not to
cause harm to anyone and tackle
issues that come forth in the
correct way, he added.
He finished by asking his
supporters not to go to the Jomo
Kenyatta International Airport to
receive him, asking that they
instead converge at Uhuru Park.
Thousands are expected to attend
the rally, with close to 1,000
police also penned in to take care
of the day's proceedings.

Ronaldo hit by thigh problem

Cristiano Ronaldo
has been hit by a
thigh problem as
Portugal continue
their preparations
for this summer's World Cup in Brazil.
The 29-year-old overcame a hamstring
complaint to play in Real Madrid's
Champions League final victory over
Atletico Madrid, but linked up with
his international team-mates on
Thursday carrying a fresh injury.
The forward was one of five players
named on Portugal's official website
that were forced to remain on the
sidelines - four of whom were nursing
thigh injuries.
A brief statement said Ronaldo was
suffering from "myalgia (pain) in the
posterior region of his left thigh" and
underwent specific rehabilitation work
at the team hotel.
He was joined there by Raul Meireles,
Hugo Almeida, Rubon Amorim and
Joao Moutinho, as Portugal prepare
for their latest pre-World Cup friendly
against Greece on Saturday.
None of these players are believed to
be serious doubts for the tournament,
though there will be concerns over
Ronaldo given the Seleccao's reliance
on the forward during qualification.
The reigning Ballon d'Or winner
scored a hat-trick in the second-leg of
their World Cup play-off with Sweden
to almost single-handedly fire Paulo
Bento's men to Brazil.
Portugal will need him at his brilliant
best if they are to advance from a
tough group containing Germany, USA
and Ghana.
Their World Cup campaign kicks off
with a clash against Germany on June
16.

Alliances and devolution: Are politicians misleading Kenyans?

IN SUMMARY

• Constitutional experts have
expressed concern that devolution
has been misinterpreted to mean
federalism, which could promote
ethnic exclusivity.

• The main concern is that the
alliances could promote a sense of
exclusive ethnic autonomy given the
party-zoning, and that smaller
parties will not have enough ethnic
command to have a say.
Despite having the most vibrant
multiparty democracy in the EAC,
Kenya has acquired a reputation for
changing the character of parties or
merging parties at will.

Every celeb wanted to ENTER me!!!

Many of use had thought that
beautiful Ine Aju is one of the
young actresses that would go far
and do well in the movie industry
in Nigeria, but it was gathered
that she is no longer in Nollywood.
In fact the babe has left acting for
now and she is currently pursuing
a career in music full time. But
what happened?
The actress and singer said almost
all the producers in Nollywood
wanted to get between her legs:
"I do my things in my own way. I
quit acting for music because I was
not getting the kind of roles I
wanted and also the constant
séxual abuses from producers. I
still have plans to go back to acting
in a bigger way. My fans should
expect more singles and nice
videos from me."
It would be recalled that a movie
director recently declared that
there is nothing wrong with a
young actress and a producer
enjoying themselves. Guess it's
people like that who drove Ine Aju
out of Nollywood.
Anyway, she says she will be back
but in a big way, probably when
she has made good cash from
singing.

Rapper Juliani and Actress Brenda Wairimu are back together.

After months of separation, showbiz
power couple Juliani and Brenda
Wairimu are back together.
On Thursday evening, the two
arrived at Juliani’s album listening
party hand in hand but however
tried to avoid media attention as
Brenda quickly joined the guests,
opting to sit next to a male friend.
The well-choreographed move saw
Juliani throw light jokes about them
when he got to the stage to address
his guest.
“There is a yellow yellow girl in the
crowd…I hope she hasn’t sat next to
that guy to attract media attention,”
he joke d, obviously talking about
Brenda who is referred as Yellow
Yellow in the showbiz circles thanks
to her light complexion.
The two remained hip to hip during
the after party that was only
attended by a few close friends.

Why is OJ's wife giving even the manamba's for free!!?

Former
Tahidi High actor, OJ, is currently
wallowing in trouble with reports
of his failed marriage, dwindling
career and alcohol addiction.
The fast-fading actor has been
reduced to a zombie and his close
friends fear that his life may soon
become totally messed up if
doesn’t change his behaviours.
Nowadays, he is seen loitering
around South B taking cheap
liquor and smoking bh@ng with
his close friends who are
misleading him.
And now, credible sources reveal
to our team that he is stalking
upcoming models and using his
celebrity status to lure them to
bed.
Surprisingly, he is preying on
models below 18 years because
they are easy to lure to bed with
cheap gifts.
This has made him forget his bed-
room job and that’s why his wife
is sleeping around with South B
matatu conductors.
“He is currently having a fling
with two young models who are in
high school. His wife knows this
and that’s why his marriage is in
trouble .” A source told us.
This has also led to constant
fights with his wife and he once
landed in prison for giving his
wife a dog’s beating.
It’s unfortunate too see such a
great talent go to the dogs and
we urge his fellow actors to join
hands and counsel him.

MUTULA: Other counties are hiding the Sh66bn meant for counties

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua
unveiled 70 ambulances, saying the
vehicles were part of a broader
billion-shilling health-care
programme. Billions of shillings
meant for counties are lying
unspent at the Central Bank less
than a month before the devolved
units are allocated more money in
the next budget. Machakos was one
of the counties that met the 25 per
cent first-quarter absorption target.

Billions of shillings meant for
counties are lying unspent at the
Central Bank less than a month
before the devolved units are
allocated more money in the next
budget.

The counties had in total more
than Sh66 billion lying in their
respective accounts as of Friday
last week, raising questions about
whether they have the capacity to
absorb the funds.
Out of the total, Sh44 billion is
money collected by the counties as
fees or commission and the
balance is allocation from the
national Government.

A report on county spending
released by the Treasury and the
controller of budget indicated that
the devolved units had received
Sh158 billion in total so far, but
they had only spent slightly more
than half of the funds as of the
end of last week.

Though the report does not
indicate how the money was used,
Nairobi County emerged the best
spender, with a balance of Sh110
million out of Sh6.7 billion it has
received so far.
Other best spenders were Bomet,
Machakos, Murang’a, Nakuru and
Nyeri, which have bank balances
of Sh539 million, 407 million, 693
million, 861 million and 640
million respectively. These
counties met the 25 per cent first-
quarter absorption target.

HIGHEST BANK BALANCE
Mandera had the highest bank
balance, having used only 30 per
cent or Sh1.8 billion out of Sh5.9
billion allocated to it. The county
has Sh4.1 billion lying idle in its
account.
Governor Ali Ibrahim Roba said
that almost all the money has
been committed to various
development projects.
“Most of the money is for paying
road contractors and developers of
various public amenities in the
county and this is still work in
progress that will be paid after the
work has been accomplished,” said
Mr Roba.
Mandera received the third-highest
allocation after Nairobi and
Turkana.
On its part, Turkana County spent
almost half of its allocation. It
used Sh3 billion out of the Sh6.8
billion it received.
Other counties that had more than
Sh2 billion in their accounts are
Bungoma, Garissa, Kilifi, Kitui and
Meru.
Baringo, Busia, Embu, Homabay,
Kisii, Kisumu, Kwale, Migori,
Mombasa, Nandi, Narok, Nyamira ,
Siaya, Tana River Uasin Gishu,
Vihiga and West Pokot have on
average Sh1.2 billion lying unspent
in their current and development
accounts.

AMENDMENT URGED
A report from the controller of
budget, Agnes Odhiambo, said
counties failed to use more than
Sh27 billion allocated to them
during their first quarter of
business. Twenty seven counties
failed to spend any money on
development. They did not request
money for projects, according to
Mrs Odhiambo.
“This low uptake could be
attributed to the failure of most
counties to meet the conditions set
for the release of funds as
stipulated in the Public Financial
Management Act, 2012,” said Mrs
Odhiambo in the report.
It was established then that while
some counties had well-formulated
and balanced budgets, others had
deficits, unrealistic estimates or
allocations for unauthorised items.
Meanwhile, the council of
governors has called for the
amendment of article 203 of the
Constitution to increase allocation
to the counties to a minimum of 40
per cent of the national revenue,
up from the current minimum of
15 per cent.
“There is growing recognition of
the importance of the national
government to increase the
allocation of revenue to counties.
To do so, we may be required to
amend the Constitution to
guarantee national revenue flow,”
said the governors in an
advertisement Friday.

Mudavadi: Respect UHURU/RUTO you Idiots!!!

Amani Coalition leader Musalia
Mudavadi flanked by party members
address journalists in Nakuru on
March 15, 2014. UDF leader Musalia
Mudavadi has said leaders shoul;d
respect each other. He spoke during
a workshop that brought together
UDF bigwigs and county
representatives at the Dudu Villa
Hotel in Lamu on May 23, 2014.

Politicians were Friday criticised
for abusing their colleagues.
Politicians should respect each
other, said UDF leader Musalia
Mudavadi.
“Let us not use unconstitutional
methods in dealing with challenges
in our country. We are allowed to
criticise each other so that we can
change but respect the institution
of the presidency and other
offices,” he said.
He spoke during a workshop that
brought together UDF bigwigs and
county representatives at the Dudu
Villa Hotel in Lamu.
Mr Mudavadi said leaders ought to
embrace the Constitution and
correct any anomalies related to
leadership constitutionally instead
of resorting to abusive and
outdated politics.
He issued a stern warning to UDF
leaders found insulting others,
saying action would be taken
against them.
“I know there is freedom of
speech but the freedom must be
exercised well. Insulting your
fellow leaders in power is not
wise. Let’s respect each other. Our
Constitution is crucial and every
section has been well- explained.
Let’s respect it,” insisted Mr
Mudavadi.
During the meeting, deputy party
leader Jeremiah Kioni criticised
Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale
for insulting those in power. He
questioned the senator’s allegiance
to UDF.
“I have a beef with Khalwale. This
habit of insulting any leader he
comes across is not right. He
should bear in mind that he was
elected on a UDF ticket,” said Mr
Kioni.
“If he is man enough, he should
defect from UDF since he has
publicly shown that he hates it.
Why should he insult the
President? As a party, we do not
advocate that. If he goes on like
that, then the party will be forced
to take action,” added Mr Kioni.

Are condoms 100% effective?

No condom prevents
pregnancy or sexually
transmitted diseases
(STDs) 100% of the time.
But if you and your
partner are having sex,
nothing protects against
STDs better than a
properly used condom.
For those having sex,
condoms must always be
used to protect against
STDs even when using
another method of birth
control. They must be
used correctly and must
be used every time you
have sex. Even when used
correctly, condoms do
not protect against
infections spread from
sores on the skin not
covered by a condom
(such as the base of the
penis or scrotum).
Using a condom correctly
doesn't only mean
putting it on right side
out. You should also:

Check the expiration
date (condoms can
dry and crack if
they're old).

Choose condoms
made of latex, which
is thought to be most
effective in preventing
STDs. If one of you
has an allergy to
latex, use
polyurethane
condoms instead.
Keep condoms away
from heat and light,
which can make them
more likely to break.

Only use water-based
lubricants with
condoms. Shortening,
lotion, petroleum
jelly, or baby oil can
break down the
condom.

Open the condom
packet with your
hands, not your
teeth, and open it
carefully so you don't
tear the condom.

Choose a condom
with a reservoir tip to
catch semen after
ejaculation. Lightly
pinch the top of the
condom and place it
at the top of your (or
your partner's) penis.
This gets rid of
trapped air, which
can cause a condom
to burst.

Roll the condom
down until it's
completely rolled out
— if it's inside out,
throw it away and
start over.

When you're done,
you (or your partner)
should withdraw
while holding the
condom at the base
of the penis to
prevent the condom
from slipping off.
If a condom breaks or
slips off and you or your
partner is concerned
about pregnancy, call
your health care provider
or pharmacist to discuss
emergency
contraception. And both
partners should be
tested for STDs.

While condoms aren't
perfect, if you're going to
have sex, they are the
best way to protect
yourself.

This Drug Prevents HIV Infection; Research Reveals

Medics now have additional
ammunition in their war chest
against HIV/AIDS and a potent
one it is. The American Food
and Drug Administration (FDA)
recently approved a drug
treatment that will prevent HIV
infection in previously
uninfected people.
The drug which is marketed as
Truvada, had already been
approved for the treatment of
HIV in infected persons. It
works by lowering the amount
of virus circulating in people’s
blood. Clinical trials conducted
showed that it can also protect
uninfected high-risk (both
homo and hetero-sexual)
people from acquiring the
virus, if they take the drug
daily before and after sexual
exposure.
Some public health experts
argue that allowing the drug to
be used for prevention will
foster a false sense of security
among users, leading people to
believe mistakenly that they
are immune to the virus and
reduce their use of condoms.
However, the FDA determined
that the benefits of expanding
the pool of people who may use
Truvada to protect against HIV
made it worth approving.
Here’s what you need to know.

Who can take Truvada?
The drug, made by Gilead
Sciences Inc., is approved for
healthy, uninfected people who
are at high risk of contracting
HIV through sex. These include
sex workers and people with
partners who are HIV-positive
or engage in high-risk
behaviors, such as using IV
drugs.
How effective is the drug in
preventing HIV?
In one study, healthy gay and
bisexual men who took Truvada
daily and were counseled about
safe sex practices lowered their
risk of becoming infected by up
to 42%. In another study
involving heterosexual couples
in which one partner was HIV-
positive, the uninfected partner
had a 75% lower risk of
contracting HIV if they took
Truvada.
Does Truvada cure AIDS?
No. The drug can treat people
who are infected with HIV by
lowering the amount of virus in
their bodies and slowing down
the progression of the disease.
In healthy, uninfected people,
the drug can thwart HIV’s
ability to take hold in healthy
cells and start an infection, by
blocking the activity of an
enzyme that the virus needs to
replicate.
Why is the approval
important?
Approving a drug to prevent
HIV marks a big step toward
controlling the spread of HIV
and AIDS worldwideaBOUT
tRUVADA. Once Truvada is used
as a preventive measure
domestically, U.S.-backed AIDS
programs in the developing
world may also begin to roll out
the pill for healthy people who
are at high risk of contracting
HIV. Public health experts are
eager to build up all effective
prevention strategies, noting
that the only way to stop the
epidemic is by preventing new
infections as well as treating
existing ones.

New Manchester United boss Van Gaal: We'll make history

Louis van Gaal has
vowed to "make
history" with
Manchester United
following his
appointment as the club's new
manager.
The Netherlands boss was announced
as David Moyes's permanent successor
on Monday and will begin his role

Van Gaal will be assisted by United
legend Ryan Giggs, who took
temporary charge of the Red Devils

two wins from his four games, and the
Dutchman is confident that the new
managerial set-up can help make
history at Old Trafford.
He told the club's official website: "It
was always a wish for me to work in
the Premier League. To work as a
manager for Manchester United, the
biggest club in the world, makes me
very proud.
"I have managed in games at Old

Obese man lost so much weight that he was detained by police

image

A 21st man shed so much
weight in Thailand that border
guards refused to let him fly home
as he looked so unlike official photos
taken of him on arrival.
Ross Connor, 33, spent £6,000 to join
a year-long kick boxing camp in
Phuket and by the time he wanted
to go home he was 13st .
He was detained at the airport until
he showed officers photos that
documented his fitness regime.
Ross, of Peterborough, Cambs, said:
“It was a worrying moment.
“I knew I’d lost a lot of weight, but I
never expected they wouldn’t let me
on the plane.
“But when they showed me the
image taken on my arrival, even I
had trouble recognising myself.
“After all my hard work, I thought I
wasn’t going to get home to show my
family the result of my year of
training.”
Ross started suffering breathing
problems and had trouble walking
after gorging daily on takeaways.
In March last year he decided
enough was enough and joined the
Muay Thai boxing camp on the
paradise island of Phuket.
For the next 12 months he worked
out four hours a day in the
blistering heat and humidity - losing
eight stone.

Senator Wamatangi Buys and Burns Hundreds of Nairobian Newspapers Copies After Rape Exposé

On Friday, the nation was shocked
by news that Kiambu Senator
Kimani Wamatangi had raped his
househelp. Standard Group owned
Nairobian Newspaper carried the
exclusive.
Here’s an excerpt from the report.
I will never forget July 8,
2006. It was my third day at
work as a househelp in the
Wamatangi household. I can
recall the exact time,
1.30pm, because I wanted to
watch a programme on
television. My boss
Wamatangi came home and
found his wife with me in
the sitting room.
He started quarrelling her,
demanding to know why she
didn’t go to work. I quickly
stepped out of the sitting
room and went to the
kitchen. I could hear them
quarrel in English. I could
gather that mzee was not
happy. After five minutes,
madam left for work, and I
was left in the house with
Wamatangi.
He then summoned me into
the living room and asked
me to bring him tea.
He asked me to sit down and
chat. I politely refused and
told him I prefer black tea
since I didn’t like milk. That
was the moment he pulled
me next to him and pushed
me onto the sofa.
I started screaming and he
slapped me on the face. He
then used his hand to cover
my mouth. I think my
screams must have attracted
the neighbour next door
because I heard someone
knock on the door, but they
soon left.
He forcefully removed my
panty and forced himself on
me. I cried bitterly. I had
never had sex. I was a virgin.
I was saved and a staunch
church member.
I don’t know how long it
lasted, but I just lay there,
in pain, and too shocked to
move.
Winfred Wangui
In a strange twist, Standard is
reporting that an outraged
Wamatangi issued instructions to
some unknown people to ensure
that the paper was “out of
circulation by close of business.”
That was on Friday.
“There is a vehicle buying the
current issue of The Nairobian off
the streets and the people in the
car have told vendors to deliver
more copies at Nyayo Stadium,” a
vendor told the paper.
This blurred out SUV was pictured
buying hundreds or maybe
thousands of copies, before
burning them.
“They were spotted buying copies
of The Nairobian in large
quantities within the CBD and
along Kiambu Road. Later on, we
saw them burning the papers near
a railway line in upper hill,” a
source said.
A group of men seen burning
copies of the newspaper at
Railways Upper Hill
That I must admit no one saw
coming.

Kenya on May 25 in readiness for
friendly matches
Italian giants Inter-Milan are
scheduled to visit Kenya on May 25
for a series of friendly matches.
The team will play national team
Harambee Stars and a host of other
local clubs in the country. According
to Fabrizio Lucchesi, the visit by
former European champions is part
of partnership with Football Kenya
Federation to promote youth football
in the country.
“This is a big project and we need
support of everyone especially the
government. FKF cannot do it on
their own and so we ask other
stakeholders to come out and lend a
hand,” Lucchesi told Goal .
FKF President Sam Nyamweya,
admitted that bringing the Italian
giants to Nairobi is a huge
undertaking. He said the visit by the
Italian team is a testimony of their
trust in Kenyan football which he
pointed out is going places.

President Sam Nyamweya with Italy
officials confirming Inter's tour
“I want to pay special tribute to the
Italian football federation and
assure them that we have put down
all measures to ensure that the
team is safe.” Kenya midfielder
Macdonald Mariga turns out for
Inter Milan.
Inter Milan have won 30 domestic
trophies in Italy, including the
league 18 times, Coppa Italia seven
times and the Supercoppa Italiana
five times. From 2006 to 2010, the
giants won five successive league
titles, equaling the all-time record.
They have won Uefa Champions
League three times: two back-to-back
in 1964 and 1965 and then another
in 2010, the last completed an
unprecedented (for an Italian team)
continental treble with the Coppa
Italia and Scudetto.

Do you feel as though you are invisible and taken for granted? WORK IT OUT

When you speak all the time,
people tend to switch off and
ignore what you are saying. You are
considered a noisemaker and
loudmouth who is not quite taken
seriously.

Do you feel as though you are
invisible and taken for granted?
Do you sometimes find yourself
stagnating and feel as if you are
going nowhere fast in all areas of
your life? It may be time to
regroup and think about how to up
your game.

Some of the most practical ways to
do this include making subtle
changes to your etiquette. These
ways do not cost a penny and may
be implemented almost overnight.
They do not involve any
psychoanalysis and other long and
drawn out methods. Here are
some ways to help transform you
from mediocre to sought-after star.
1. Stop talking too much: When
you speak all the time, people
tend to switch off and ignore
what you are saying. You are
considered a noisemaker and
loudmouth who is not quite
taken seriously. Maybe some of
the things you say are
ridiculous, or perhaps you take
jokes too far, especially when
you have had one too many to
drink.
2. Become unavailable : Rare
commodities acquire greater
value. If you are always around
when people call you or need
you, it is easy for you to be
taken for granted. Maybe you
are too eager to please others
and find yourself being
misused as an odd-job person.
This sort of reputation makes
people think you are a
doormat. Try making yourself
scarce for a while and see how
reactions start changing.
3. Change your demeanor: If
you always show up with
overly humble and apologetic
gestures and puppy dog eyes,
people may devalue you. This
especially applies to women
who desperately want to get
into a relationship. The minute
you show a little bit of attitude,
you become a challenge to
other people and they start
becoming more respectful of
you.
4. Learn to intimidate: There are
times when people ought to
fear you, and not think that you
are simply too nice all the
time. It starts with your
dressing: wear a black skirt,
black heels and stockings and a
matching top. Maintain a
straight, no-nonsense face and
steady eye contact. Smile only
when necessary and use as few
words in low tones as possible
to communicate. You will be
surprised at the reaction of
others, as they are taken aback
5. Do a disappearing act for a
while : The old saying that
“familiarity breeds contempt”
could imply that if you are
around certain people, all the
time, it is possible to become
contemptuous to them. If you
sense that your presence has
become too much, it is time to
do a disappearing act. Leave
town to undertake some
studies, or if you can afford it,
travel to another country.
While you are away, resist the
temptation to call or
communicate frequently. When
you return, you will most likely
be received with fresh eyes.
6. Be an enigma: Increase your
personal ratings by being
mysterious. Allow people to
ponder about you. You can do
this by minimising self-
disclosure.

Two held over murder of albino in Tanzania, Gasuma

"Albinism is associated with a
number of vision defects, such as
photophobia, nystagmus and
astigmatism. Lack of skin
pigmentation makes for more
susceptibility to sunburn and skin
cancers. "
  -Toboa siri

Two witch doctors in Tanzania
have been arrested after a woman
with albinism was hacked to death,
police said. One of her legs and
several fingers were removed in
the attack on Tuesday.
Albinos have suffered widespread
persecution in Tanzania, where
witch doctors say magic potions
made with albino body parts can
bring good luck.
Such killings have declined in
recent years, but this latest attack
has prompted a human rights
group to call for all witch doctors
to be banned.
At a press conference, the group,
Under the Same Sun, said the
current regulation of witch doctors
was clearly not working.
Currently, all witch doctors have to
apply for a certificate from the
ministry of health and welfare to
practise.
The attack occurred in the village
of Gasuma, in Simiyu province, a
remote rural area in the northwest
of the country where there have
been killings of albinos before.
TWO PEOPLE ARRESTED
The woman’s left leg, two fingers
from her left hand and a nail from
one of the thumbs were removed.
According to Under the Same Sun,
which campaigns against the
discrimination of people living with
albinism, the last killing of an
albino in Tanzania was in February
2013.
Charles Mkumbo, police chief of
the Simiyu region in northwestern
Tanzania, said a man and a
woman, Gudawa Yalema and Shiwa
Masalu, had been arrested.
In Tanzania, albinos are killed and
dismembered due to a widespread
belief that charms made from their
body parts bring good fortune and
prosperity.
‘Witch doctors tell their clients
that the skin, hair, blood and
organs of persons with albinism
when combined with their magic
potions guarantee success, wealth
and election victory,’ the group
said in a statement.

Harambee stars host Comoros at the Nyayo National Stadium today.

Harambee Stars will on Sunday
embark on a long route to the 2015
African Cup of Nations finals when
they host the lowly ranked
Comoros at the Nyayo National
Stadium in the first encounter of a
two-leg preliminary phase tie.
The last time Stars made an
appearance at the continental
showpiece was way back in 2004
under the tutelage of former
coach-turned-television pundit
Jacob ’Ghost’ Mulee.
Since then, the team’s successive
attempts to earn a ticket to
Africa’s premier football
competition have ended in
heartbreak.
When Stars last took part in the
competition, the squad was a
blend of youth and experience with
former long-serving skipper Musa
Otieno, Mike Okoth, Robert Mambo
and custodian Francis Onyiso
forming the spine of the team.
Also in the squad was a
sensational teenager by the name
Dennis Oliech who had just
announced his arrival on the big
stage.
Ten years on, as the team begins a
journey whose destination is
Morocco their aim is to make up
for past failures.
BIG NAMES
The current squad boasts of a
number of big names including
team captain Victor Wanyama,
MacDonald Mariga and Dennis
Oliech, all of whom bring a wealth
of experience into the team.
For Oliech and Duncan Ochieng,
the only survivors from the 2004
squad, the campaign presents an
opportunity to take another bite at
the cherry while the returning
Mariga desires to make his debut
at the Nations Cup.
“I have been away from the team
for too long, but what is important
is to put our heads together and
make our country proud. I am glad
to be back and I want to give my
best,” said Mariga.
National duty
The Inter Milan midfielder, who
has been sidelined with injury for
nearly two years, will be playing
alongside his younger sibling
Wanyama and Oliech for the first
time since October 2011.
Other foreign-based players
scattered in various leagues abroad
have likewise responded to the
call of national duty by diligently
trooping to camp.
Latest arrival Lawrence Olum
believes success at this stage
would provide the team with the
much needed morale boost going
forward into the campaign.
POSITIVE START
The midfielder, who plays for
Sporting Kansas City in Major
League Soccer in the United States,
said whichever player takes to the
field today will have only one thing
in his mind - victory.
“On paper it looks like we are the
favourites in this match, but we
still have a job to do and make
that statistic count. I want to
assure Kenyans that we will do
our part to conjure up a win, so let
them show patriotism by coming
out to support us tomorrow
(today),” Olum said Saturday when
the team was hosted to a luncheon
at a city hotel by the football
governing body in the country.
Indeed, Olum, who earlier in the
week risked missing to report to
camp, demonstrated his
commitment to the team by
purchasing his own air ticket
following local football authorities’
failure to send him tickets on
time.
“It is always an honour to
represent the country and when I
was called up I had to stand up for
my country with or without
receiving the air tickets,” he said.
Former team captain Oliech
stressed the need for a positive
start to the campaign for them to
build momentum.
“We do not know much about our
opponents (Comoros) but what is
important is to have a good start
and reach the group stages. We
want to qualify and for us to have
a chance we must work hard,”
Oliech said.
THE OPPOSITION
Stars coach Adel Amrouche echoed
his players’ ambition but warned
them against underrating the
opposition.
“We have said it time and again
that we need to improve. The time
has come to walk the talk because
this is about the country. If we
reach next year’s Africa Cup of
Nations, then the whole country
will have achieved something. That
is our goal,” Amrouche said.
During the luncheon, the team
received Sh1 million in cash for
their allowances.
Although the islanders are ranked
at a lowly position 184, 78 slots
behind Kenya and have not won a
major title, Harambee Stars will be
wary of the unfancied opposition.
If Kenya manages an aggregate
win over Comoros they will face
either Lesotho or Liberia in the
next round of the qualifiers with
the winner advancing to the group
stage where Angola, Gabon and
Burkina Faso lie in wait.
'CLEAN SHEET'
Meanwhile, Comoros coach Amir
Abdou said they will not be cowed
by the big names in the Kenyan
team.
“They (Harambee Stars) have very
good players such as Dennis Oliech
who I have followed for long in
France, but we are here to fight
and give our best,” Abdou said.
“I have assembled a very good
side capable of doing well against
any team. We are fully focused on
Sunday’s (today) match. We want
to do well against a very strong
side. Our goal is to keep a clean
sheet in Nairobi,” he added.
Needless to say, the hopes of 40
million plus Kenyans rest on the
shoulders of Wanyama and his
team mates.
Abdou will be counting on his
skipper Najim Abdou, who turns
out for Millwall FC in the English
second tier league to lead his side
against Harambee Stars.
“My players can cope with the
intimidating atmosphere that we
expect to receive from the home
fans. Playing away from home is
always very tricky, but my boys
are psychologically prepared for
the match.”

Robben, Mueller strike as Bayern win German Cup

image

Arjen Robben and Thomas Mueller
scored extra-time goals as Bayern
Munich won the German Cup with
a 2-0 victory over rivals Borussia
Dortmund on Saturday.
After the first 90 minutes finished
goalless, Robben broke the drought
in the 107th-minute before Mueller
added a second in time added-on.
Coach Pep Guardiola finishes his
first season in charge of Bayern
with four trophies having already
won the Bundesliga title, Club
World Cup and UEFA Super Cup.
Bayern won the German Cup for a
record 17th time to claim the
domestic league and cup double --
the Champions League was the
only title to evade the Bavarian
giants this season.
Having also scored the late winner
in the 2013 Champions League
final against Dortmund at
Wembley, Netherlands winger
Robben again broke Dortmund
hearts.
And there was no fairytale finish
for Poland striker Robert
Lewandowski who had promised to
finish his four years at Dortmund
by lifting the cup before joining
Bayern next season.
This was the fourth and final time
Germany's top two sides met this
season with both sides finishing
with two wins a piece.
But it was a nervy, tense affair in
front of a 71,967 crowd at Berlin's
sold-out Olympic Stadium which
also included Hollywood star Tom
Hanks who is filming 'A Hologram
for the King' in Germany's capital.
Bayern were forced into a late
change when Austria left-back
David Alaba dropped out with a
stomach muscle injury and Brazil's
Rafinha slotted into his place.
Munich were already without
defensive midfielder Bastian
Schweinsteiger, ruled out with a
knee injury while striker Mario
Mandzukic having been dropped.
Guardiola opted to play a new
3-4-3 system and included 18-year-
old midfielder Pierre-Emile
Hoejbjerg, who was making only
his 11th first team appearance.
Dortmund were at near full
strength with Lewandowski
making his final appearance in the
yellow-black shirt.
Bayern made a bright start as
Mueller and Robben both forced
Dortmund captain and goalkeeper
Roman Weidenfeller into early
saves.
LAHM LEG INJURY
There were worrying scenes ahead
of next month's World Cup in
Brazil when Bayern's Germany
captain Philipp Lahm limped off
with half an hour gone to be
replaced by Franck Ribery.
The Bayern bench said Lahm had
taken a knock to the fibula, but it
was not serious and he is expected
to join the Germany training camp
which starts on Wednesday.
Hoejbjerg squandered a great
chance with half-time approaching
when he fired wide from the
penalty area after being left
unmarked.
At the other end, Lewandowski
cannoned his shot over the bar
moments later.
Both teams had clear chances in
the second half as Mueller's shot
at point-blank range was
smothered by Weidenfeller on 56
minutes.
And at the other end, Dortmund
defender Mats Hummels' header
was saved off the line on 64
minutes by Bayern's Dante.
After the game went to extra-time,
Robben broke the drought when
he fired home at the near post
from five metres out.
Mueller then took advantage of
tired Dortmund legs when he held
off Germany team-mate Marcel
Schmelzer and rounded
Weidenfeller just before the final
whistle as Bayern defended their
cup title.

Arsenal's FA Cup win in 2005 represents the last major trophy won by the Gunners

l
Ramsey's extra-time winner
ensured Arsenal ended their nine-year wait for a trophy as they came from two goals behind.
Giroud wasn't.
Missing in action were the two Germany stars: Ozil and
Podolski.
Lukas Podolski hasn't even got
that excuse. An extremely poor
display from a man with 112
international caps. Not good
enough.
A number of penalty appeals were turned down.
Luck always plays a part but on
another day Wenger's men could
have had not one, not two but
three penalties awarded.
Giroud and Cazorla were felled
on two separate occasions while
Jake Livermore seemed to
handle the ball in the box in
between.
When your opponent has an off
day you have to capitalise and
the Tigers did that at Wembley.
The blistering start left the
Gunners floundering and they
defended for their lives
thereafter.
Regardless of the result they
certainly didn't look like a team
just one year removed from the
Championship.
They were a credit to their city
and the legion of orange and
black who travelled the length
of the country to roar them on.
Ramsey proved
why he's now Arsenal's top
gun.
Ramsey proved
why he's now Arsenal's top
gun.
Ramsey is now, without doubt
the Gunners' best player and he
showed why on the biggest
stage.

The SHOCKING life of Citizen TV's Tahidi High actor OJ. His wife is having S3X with..

Not long
ago, a local publication carried a
story revealing that former Tahidi
actor, OJ, is a heavy drinker who
has wasted all his fortunes to the
bottle.
It was reported that he was fired
from his role on the popular
programme Tahidi High for being
an alcoholic and a bh@ng smoker.
He was also preying on new
actresses and he once attempted
to rap3 one due to his s3xual
thirst.
Later on, he came out breathing
fire and claimed that the writer
of the story wanted to have s3x
with him but he denied,
prompting her to tarnish his
name.
However, a credible source who
spoke to us on condition of
anonymity confirmed that the
witty actor is currently broke and
living under the mercies of
sug@rmummies.
“That nigga is BROKE man!
wololo! He preys on other celebs or
older mamas to buy him drinks at
local joints! I've spotted him
getting wasted (on other people's
cash) at South B's shopping center
so many times i can't even count.
He is currently living under the
mercies of sug@rmummies“.
Added the credible source.
The advertising company he
claims to have started has
collapsed because he takes all the
money to the club to spend with
prostitut3s. He is always
accompanied by a guy called Bobo,
who helps him squander his
money and they even share
prostitut3s.
Shockingly, the once high-flying
actor has also forgotten his
bedroom job and his wife is now
giving her juicy jar freely to South
B Matatu conductors.
“ South B matatus have made her
their s3x tool and she may spread
the “thing” to OJ. Added the
concerned source.
They are in constant wrangles
and OJ assaulted her last week
after he came home drunk and
she refused to open the door for
him. A source indicates that he
had slept away from home for
four consecutive days and his
wife wanted to teach him a
lesson.
OJ responded with kicks and
blows and it took the intervention
of neighbors to save her from
death.
“They are always fighting and his
wife may soon fall into depression.
People thought he would change
his behaviours once they got a kid.
But he is now worse.” Said the
source close to him.
It’s so sad to see OJ’s talent get
wasted and as the people’s
watchmen, we urge well-wishers
to counsel him before he meets
his pre-mature death.

to kill Ahmednasir for abusing
Ruto.
Ahmednasir, on Tuesday, had
launched scathing attacks against
the DP over his remarks on
Monday, calling on the courts not
to give bonds to suspected
terrorists in custody.
But, Ahmednasir who is a
renowned Al Shabaab
sympathiser, urged Ruto to first
mind about his case at the
International Criminal Court (ICC)
where he is accused of killing
innocent Kenyans during the
2007-08 post election violence.
He said Ruto is out on bond at
ICC and he should not tell courts
on what to do with terrorists. The
lawyer also said there is no
difference between Ruto and Al
Shabaab terrorists because they
are all killers.
Ahmednasir, who is known in
legal circles as “Grand Mullah’,
has recorded statement at CID
headquarters accompanied by his
lawyer, Paul Muite.

Proud Wenger vows to bolster Arsenal’s attacking options to match City and Liverpool.

Thursday, May 08, 2014 - Arsenal
boss, Arsene Wenger, is keen to
bolster his attacking options in
order to challenge for the Premier
League title next season.
The Gunners are the lowest
scoring side in the top four with
66 goals in 37 matches, more than
30 goals less than Liverpool and
City.
The Frenchman is however proud
of his charges who were top of
the league for 17 weeks but
injuries to key players saw their
hopes evaporate.
Wenger said: "My team has
shown a remarkable stamina and
I am very proud of that. We have
been top for 128 days but we
failed in some big games away
from home.
"City and Liverpool's offensive
potential has been fantastic.
That's where we need to
improve."
Meanwhile, Wenger expects City
to be crowned Champions
although he feels Liverpool have
been unlucky.
He added: "It will be a miracle if
Man City don't win the league
now and congratulations to them.
"It's been a very interesting title
race.
"You feel Liverpool were very
unlucky because they had a
fantastic second half of the
season.
"Every other team in the top four
will be frustrated by not winning
the league this year.
Arsenal finish the season on
Sunday against Norwich City then
face off with Hull City in the FA
Cup final for a chance to end
their nine year trophy drought.

The day UHURU KENYATTA and RUTO ran away from Kenyans’ pressure and went to hide

Thursday May 8, 2014 -
Immediately after being declared
President and Deputy President-
elect by the Independent
Electoral and Boundaries
Commission (IEBC) and
subsequently setting up a
temporary office at Kenyatta
International Conference Centre
(KICC), Uhuru Kenyatta and
William Ruto started receiving
visitors none stop.
Reliable sources at State House
told us that visitors from all
walks of life; lobbyists, politicians
and ordinary Kenyans flocked
Uhuru/ Ruto’s offices at KICC
without appointments and with
varied problems.
They felt that Uhuru and Ruto
owed them after being declared
the most powerful men in the
land.
Long queues started forming as
early as 5am to as late as 9pm
everyday and the two felt the
heat of their new responsibility
ahead; they had rough time
managing human traffic in their
offices.
After realizing that they were
almost being paralyzed by the
jam in their offices even before
they legally assume office, Uhuru
and Ruto immediately devised an
escape plan.
Their men came up with
something that saw the two run
to Mombasa to hide from the
masses in Nairobi.
The two were said to have gone
to the Coast to inspect
development projects but it was
all a lie because they just ran
away from people to focus on
constituting the Government.

SHENG SLANG

Sadly, Sheng is spreading faster
than the flu, particularly in my
hacienda. My mboys are
consummate Sheng aficionados.
Little Tiffany — who is a second year
student at the local kindergarten —
has slowly become acclimatised to
this lingo, and Mama Jimmy has also
joined the bandwagon. Maggy the
mboch, too, has elected to kaa ritho
and learn how to bonga like a true
mnati. Not to be left out, Baba
Jimmy has taken a crash course in
Sheng.
For instance, thanks to my piecemeal
knowledge of the lingo, I am now
aware that policemen are known as
makarao, magava or masanse. “Chuo”
means school, daro means class,
thafe stands for Math and odijo is
the universally accepted misnomer
for teacher. Modo means a random
person such as you and I. In plural,
we are mamodo. Wathii , wasee and
kirindi are polite terms used to refer
to members of the public. A
beautiful lady is known as mresh,
msupa, manzi, msusu or mroro , while
a not-so-attractive girl — the kind
that will only get a husband through
prayers and fasting — is known as
an otwong’o .
Back in the hacienda, everything has
been renamed and rebranded in line
with this “language”. For starters,
our house has been baptised keja,
mbanyu and base. Mburungo stands
for cargo, iza means sorry, and the
family car has been christened moti .
Being their father, my official title is
buda, which they prefer to call me
behind my back. Their mother, too,
has not been spared this name-
calling. She answers to several
unaccredited monikers that range
from mathe to mthama, mnyaka,
mokoro and moda.
Things get worse when my mboys
dialogue in this lingo, as many are
times when I don’t know what they
are talking about. The lads could be
seated right there, discussing the
length of my nose, and I wouldn’t
have a hot clue what they are
talking about. One such conversation
happened on Thursday evening. I
had just stepped in from work, and I
was chilling in the living room with
my comptroller, Little Tiffany and my
Assistant Couch Potato, Tyson the
cat. At around 6pm, the lads
stepped in from school.
“How was school, boys?” I queried
the lads, attempting conversation.
”Chuo iko poa tu,” announced a
visibly tired Jimmy, while dumping
his fossils on the couch. Having
uttered these words, he then turned
to his broda.
“Manze niko na unenge ile deadly!”
he moaned, referring to his
everlasting hunger pangs. So there
you have it. There is a language
crisis in my hacienda, and we are
officially in a “ Kiswahili kifukuzwe”
situation.

President Uhuru gets a 21-gun salute welcome in Nigeria

Kenya: President Uhuru Kenyatta
was accorded a hero’s welcome by
his host President Goodluck
Jonathan who officially received him
in Nigeria on Monday.
Uhuru received a 21-gun salute –
the highest military honour given to
a visiting Head of State – with the
Nigerian military band playing the
two countries’ national anthems on
his arrival at State House in Abuja.
Uhuru was accompanied by First
Lady Margaret Kenyatta who was also
received by her Nigerian
counterpart, First Lady Dame
Patience Jonathan.
Thereafter, President Kenyatta
inspected a colourful guard of
honour mounted by a detachment of
the Nigerian Army.

AL SHABAAB TERRORISTS HIT ALGERIA

Algerian armed forces killed
nine armed Islamists near the
Malian border on Monday, the
defence ministry said.
The "terrorist group of nine
criminals" died after clashes
with the army in the
Taoundert border area, 80
kilometres (50 miles) west of
Tin Zaoutine in Tamanrasset
province, the APS news agency
quoted a ministry statement
as saying.
It said eight automatic
Kalashnikov-type rifles, an
RPG-7 rocket launcher
technical equipment and a
"large amount" of ammunition
were seized.
The clampdown came after
"effective use of information
on suspicious movements of a
terrorist group," said the
statement.
On Thursday, Al-Qaeda in the
Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) had
claimed responsibility for an
April ambush in Algeria's
restive Kabylie region that
killed 11 soldiers.
The attack was the deadliest
on the military in years and
came two days after ailing
President Abdelaziz Bouteflika
was re-elected for a fourth
term.
The 77-year-old, who had cast
his vote from a wheelchair,
has long been seen as the
leader who helped restore
stability to Algeria after the
devastating civil war of the
1990s.
Islamist-linked violence rocked
Algeria in the 1990s but has
declined considerably in recent
years, although jihadists still
operate in the mountainous
Kabylie region.
The previously biggest attack
there by Islamist groups was
in April 2011, when 10 soldiers
were killed at a military post
in Azazga, east of the regional
capital Tizi Ouzou.

Prophet says bloodier AL-SHABAAB attack in Kenya soon - predicted Pangani Blast

Renowned
Nigerian televangelist and
Prophet, TB Joshua, has once
again prophesied that Kenya will
be hit by more terrorist attacks in
a few days to come.
Joshua, who recently predicted
about the missing Malaysian
plane that came to pass, warned
that the upcoming Al-Shabaab
terror attacks will be more deadly
and bloodier than last year’s
Westgate terror attack where 67
people died while hundreds were
injured.
The man of God, who is well
known in Kenya for his accurate
prophesies, should be taken
seriously because he also
predicted the Pangani car blast
that killed four people including 2
police officers.
He noted that God had shown him
some revelation about Kenya of
some strangers hibernating in
Kenya but ready to cause
murderous havoc.
However, he said he has kept
Kenya in his prayers but asked its
citizens to be vigilant and the
Jubilee Government to beef up
security.
“Kenya - I kept praying for
them”, said Joshua.
“Two weeks ago, I was seeing
some revelation concerning
Kenya. Some strange people, they
are in the town. They should
pray and tighten their security
very well”, he added.
He said Al-Shabaab’s mission is to
make Kenya an example and
make headlines locally and
internationally but said he will
pray to God not to allow this to
happen.
